We recently made this appetizer for a Christmas party that we attended. The theme of the party was an appetizer contest, with everyone that came bringing a different appetizer to compete. And, in spite of some very stiff (and tasty) competition, this recipe won the top spot.

Just because we are grain-free doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy lasagna! Using chard instead of noodles works out beautifully in this recipe and in my opinion adds a much better flavor to the dish.

We’ve just added a new page to the top of the site (and re-arranged a few others). The latest addition is the first draft of a comprehensive index of all of the recipes we’ve got here on Purely Primal. It’s far from perfect, but it’s a start. So have it, and let us know what you think.

Here’s a great recipe with similar taste to fried chicken, but without it being fried up in nasty vegetable oil. We recently got a bunch of chickens from Inspiration Plantation. We kept some whole and cut a few up. It is actually very easy to do! Perhaps we should post a video soon on how to do it.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner for us. That means it time to celebrate the bounty of fall – all the great flavors that are only available at the end of the harvest as winter threatens to shutter us in for the next few months. One of those flavors is cranberries…only today we’re giving them a little different presentation than usual.

Last weekend, Karen and I stopped by Lapellah, a local restaurant here in Vancouver with an awesome (and often changing) menu that features lots of fresh local ingredients, including produce from April Joy Farm (the same one we use for our CSA). On the menu were Brussels sprouts that were roasted with sour cherries, which sounded both interesting and tasty. We got some to share as a side, and proceeded to devour them. We also decided we better figure out how to imitate them at home, because we wanted to have them again soon. Real soon…
